- Wildlife
photography isn’t done with a Kodak Instamatic
Try photographing them without enough lens and they'll be little dots in your
pictures. It's OK to take a few 'insurance' shots from farther away when you
first spot an animal. To capture expression and behavior, you're going to
have to get close.
- Always
remember: “It’s about the behavior, genius!” Unless the light's great and
behavior's unusual, the picture's pretty boring.
- Patience
- get close enough to need extension rings – especially with that big telephoto.
But don’t disturb their normal activity.
- Be
wary – Bison and elk shouldn’t be approached too closely during their rutting
season (June for bison, September-October for elk and moose). Grizzlies
shouldn’t be approached closely anytime.
You're safer with coast grizzlies feeding during salmon runs. Just listen
to your guide and STAY AWAY!
